Art in the BarnART IN THE BARN
Art in the Barn is new to the Peak District Holiday Barn! We want to promote the work of artists from across the country, whose work is in keeping with the barn and the surrounding countryside. Most of the work on display will also be available to buy – a great reminder of your time spent at the barn! Our first artist is Ian Lightfoot, based in the North East of England, who has a wide range of experience in teaching art, as well as exhibiting his prints, drawings and paintings. Please see below for a full price list. Harvest Moon 'This series of paintings was inspired by the English tradition of depicting wildfowl and other species that roam our countryside. A tradition that pre-dates the engravings of Thomas Bewick, a tradition satisfying the demand for adorning the walls of stately homes and manor houses, a perpetual reminder of the abundance and wealth of those estates. Contemporary eyes might see these species differently. Think of the fox for instance, or the badger, and consider how our views could be formed by pastoral politics. “Harvest Moon” is a series of nocturnes that celebrate the existence of these wonderful creatures. The “Night of the Hunter” sub-series arrived after viewing the film of the same title starring Robert Mitchum and directed by Charles Laughton. In one unforgettable scene, an owl descends from its perch to capture a young rabbit. The Chiaroscuro is mainly arranged with two light sources; the moon in the heavens, and an out of frame light from an unexplained secondary source.' -Ian Lightfoot- All of Ian's work is for sale - you can either view it during your stay at the barn, arrange to view the paintings and prints independent of a stay at the barn, or else have a look at the images on this page and buy one directly.
